Way Too Specific is built around a singular thesis: the most fascinating information is interesting precisely because it is unusually specific.

We exist at the intersection of an editorial magazine, an empirical data-exploration tool, and an archival curiosity engine. Rather than producing millions of programmatic SEO pages or superficial listicles, every discovery and dataset published on Way Too Specific represents genuine, verified research into narrow niches.

Our Core Principles

  1. Editorial, Not a Spreadsheet: The underlying SQL database is our source of truth and analytical backbone, but the public website is crafted as an editorial magazine.
  2. Database Rows ≠ Web Pages: Having 8,000 airports in a database does not mean creating 8,000 generic stub pages. A page exists only when there is something genuinely interesting to share.
  3. First-Class Provenance: Every claim, price point, or measurement is explicitly linked to primary sources, public filings, academic surveys, or field audits.
  4. No AI Filler: Every article and catalog is researched and curated with human intentionality and deep curiosity.

Architecture & Technology

Way Too Specific is engineered with Astro, TypeScript, Cloudflare Workers, and Cloudflare D1. The architecture prioritizes pre-rendered HTML for speed, security, and search engine excellence, with lightweight dynamic islands for interactive data exploration.
